Foreign Minister: Consulate Is Monitoring Situation with Bulgarian Missing in Turkiye

There is still a missing Bulgarian in Iskenderun, rescue work is ongoing, the caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Milkov told a press conference in Sofia on Tuesday. The Bulgarian consular service is monitoring the situation, Milkov confirmed.

Ambassador in Turkiye Angel Cholakov told reporters in Adana, Turkiye, that the missing person is a Bulgarian citizen with dual nationality. There is no information at this time about other Bulgarian citizens who have been injured or gone missing after the earthquakes that hit Turkiye on Monday.

Milkov said: "Relatives of the missing man have gone to the site and our consular office is in touch with them". The Minister added that there are a number of people who have been pulled out from under the rubble and are in hospital, some of whom are yet to be identified. Milkov expressed hope that the Bulgarian is among those unidentified in hospital.
