On July 8, outgoing Prime Minister Kiril Petkov will pay a one-day visit to Greece at an invitation of Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Council of Ministers said in a press release on Thursday. The two sides will participate in an official ceremony to mark the construction completion of the gas interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria.
The event will take place near the town of Komotini. Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov will attend the ceremony as well.
The gas interconnector is of great importance both for regional development and Bulgaria's energy independence and security. The transboundary pipeline will connect the gas transmission networks of the two countries, providing Bulgaria with access to the Southern gas Corridor and to several new natural gas sources.
