Outgoing Prime Minister Kiril Petkov told journalists that next week he will be visiting Komotini to meet with Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis and discuss the commissioning of the gas interconnector between Greece and Bulgaria. Petkov was inspecting the gas station near the central southern village of Malko Kadievo on Friday.

He said that he kept the promise that he made on March 17 at the same place that the interconnector with Greece would be ready by June 30. Kiril Petkov commended progress made under the project and said that the manual tests have concluded and now the software should be tested and the documentation completed.

Prime Minister Petkov inspected the gas station together with Teodora Georgieva, Executive Director of ICGB, a joint venture between the Bulgarian Energy Holding and the Greek-Italian shareholder IGI Poseidon which started the project at the end of 2019.

Gas between Greece and Bulgaria is expected to begin to flow in September-October, Georgieva told journalists earlier.

The price of natural gas will be cheaper once the interconnector is launched, outgoing Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov told journalists.
