World Egg Day has been marked since 1996 on the second Friday of October every year by a decision of the International Egg Commission. This year, it is celebrated on October 11 under the motto "United by Eggs".

World Egg Day aims to promote the nutritional benefits of egg consumption. Since its inception in Vienna in 1996, this day of celebration has grown and evolved, being marked in creative ways such as making the largest egg pizza in the city. Egg festivals, cooking competitions and special activities for children are organised on this day in many countries around the world.

This year’s motto "United by Eggs" celebrates how the egg can connect and unite people from all corners of the globe. "As well as being an environmentally friendly animal protein source and their abundance of nutritional benefits, eggs have the power to bring people together. They can play a crucial role in fostering cross cultural understanding and promoting solidarity within communities across the world," the International Egg Commission says on its website.
