Sofia, August 20 (BTA) - Commenting on Prime Minister Boyko
Borissov's rejection of a migrant return deal, the Internal
Macedonian Revolutionary Organization - Bulgarian National
Movement (VMRO-BND) said Bulgaria's position on asylum seekers
shows this country is a factor in the EU.

VMRO-BND, which is part of the power-sharing United Patriots
coalition, said: "Despite the insistence of German Chancellor
Angela Merkel and some of her counterparts of other EU Member
States, Bulgaria's position remains firm and unchanged. This is
an important indicator that the Patriots are important and
useful in the country's governance."

"Acting as the EU's external border, Bulgaria is responsible not
 just for its own security but for the security of the entire
EU. Thanks to the efforts of the patriotic groups in Parliament,
 a border fence was completed during the government's previous
term. In his capacity as Defence Minister [VMRO leader]
Krassimir Karakachanov strengthened military presence in the
border areas which were used as entry points by illegal
migrants. All this has led to almost zero migrant pressure on
the border and very few people in the migrant centres," VMRO-BND
 said.

The party said Bulgaria's government has kept its promise: it
will not take back migrants and will not allow a new migrant
crisis to take place in Bulgaria. SN/DD
