EU Commissioner Avramopoulos
Commends Bulgaria's Will to Work
for Western Balkans' EU Perspective

Luxembourg, October 12 (BTA) - Interior Minister Mladen Marinov, who took part in a Justice and Home Affairs Council here on Friday, held a bilateral meeting with European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship Dimitris Avramopoulos, Marinov's Ministry said. Avramopoulos commended the contribution of the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency, supported its priorities and Bulgaria's will to continue working for the Western Balkans' EU perspective.

In his words, serious work lies ahead for solving the still open issues in the area of home affairs, and he relies on the active dialogue and role of Bulgaria.

Marinov said that the Interior Ministry will continue working actively on the priorities set in the area of internal security and migration. He thanked the European Commissioner about Bulgaria's efforts, to guarantee European citizens' security as an EU external border, being appreciated and supported by the EU partners.

Bulgaria continues to maintain a high level of security along the EU external border, Marinov went on to say. At present, the migration situation in the country can be described as stable, calm and predictable. Since the closure of migrants' Balkan route in 2016, the migration pressure has began to steadily decrease; still, Bulgaria remains ready and continues to work on strengthening the teams along the border, exchanging information and developing the border cooperation with its neighbours, Marinov said.
