Power-sharing NFSB Urges Bulgarian Orthodox Church
to Recognize Independence
of Ukrainian Orthodox Church

Sofia, October 13 (BTA) - The National Front of the Salvation of
Bulgaria (NFSB), which is part of the power-sharing United
Patriots coalition, said in a position on Saturday that it
welcomes the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople's
decision to recognize the independence of the Ukrainian Orthodox
Church (BOC), and urged the Bulgarian Orthodox Church to follow
 suit.

"Ukraine is a country close to Bulgaria, home of one of the
largest Bulgarian communities abroad," the party's position
reads. The Bulgarian government and parliament have conducted a
consistent policy throughout the years, aimed at bringing closer
the Bulgarians in Ukraine to their homeland and their fellow
Bulgarians here, as well as to build lasting and sustainable
economic, social and cultural ties between the two countries.
This is why NFSB believes that it is crucial that the BOC joins
this process, follows the Bulgarian state's policy and do what
is necessary so that the Ukrainian people and the Bulgarians in
Ukraine can have their own independent church.

NFSB also reminds the BOC's Holy Synod that they have submitted
a request this February to demand a meeting to discuss the
canonization of Bulgarian revolutionary and freedom fighter
Vassil Levski. So far the Holy Synod has not responded, the
position says. SN/MY
