Sofia, October 22 (BTA) - The Citizens for Sofia NGO demands an international audit of Sofia Municipality covering the ten year period since Bulgaria's EU accession, said here Monday Dimiter Dimitrov of the NGO during a BTA-hosted news conference.

According to him, the Bulgarian side of the audit should include National Ombudsman Maya Manolova, National Association of Municipalities head Silvia Georgieva, experts Prof. Boyan Dourankov and Mika Zaykova, among others.

The audit is supposed to check how Sofia Town Hall's budget has been spent over the past ten years, how the local taxes are used, which according to Dimitrov have added up to around 7 billion leva in ten years. Control must be exercised over the spending of funds collected from Sofia's residents, while the audit should give an answer whether this money could be put to better use for the city and its residents, Dimitrov said.
