Sofia, December 7 (BTA) - A majority of 70 per cent of Bulgarians support recent protests against the government, according to Gallup International data announced on Friday. Twenty-seven per cent oppose the protests and the rest are undecided. The company conducted an independent phone opinion poll between November 28-30 among 801 people country-wide.

Sociologists commented that there is a serious protest potential in Bulgaria which might stir up new public discontent although the recent wave of protests has passed.

Fifty per cent of respondents said they would participate in an anti-government protest, followed by 41 per cent who would not participate, 8 per cent who have already participated and 1 per cent who cannot say.

Sixty-nine per cent believe the protests were spontaneous, followed by 19 per cent who believe they were paid, and 4 per cent who find them criminal.

Most Bulgarians share a neutral to negative opinion of the government, with 32 per cent who think the government is doing "averagely" in running the country.

Four per cent believe the government is doing "very well", 15 per cent "well", 26 per cent "poorly", and 21 per cent "very poorly".

Forty-three per cent believe the government will serve out its term (until 2021), 29 per cent believe it will survive until the European Parliament elections and 15 per cent until the local elections in 2019. RY/TH
