January 14 (BTA) - National Ombudsman Maya Manolova
Monday filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court against
the texts on single water price of the Water Supply and Sewerage
Services Act, her press office said.

Manolova considers the following provision a violation of the
constitutional principles of a State governed by the rule of law
and of the protection that the legislator owes consumers:
"water supply and sewerage operators apply the principle of a
single price of water supply and sewerage services on the
designated territory".

According to Manolova, the legislator's approach is socially
ungrounded and imbalanced, does not take into view the public
interest and consumers' rights, and does not meet the
requirement for fairness.

The National Ombudsman's position is that the increase of the
water price is unjust because it does not result in an
improvement either of the service's or the water's quality. In
her words, citizens sponsor water supply and sewerage companies,
which can afford losses and leaks since it is consumers who pay
the bill, the press release reads.
