An exhibition titled "Knight of the Luminous Line" featuring Atanas Yaranov's drawings is on at Sofia's Anel Museum-Gallery from May 13. The exhibition marks the artist's 85th birth anniversary.
Many of the works are being exhibited for the first time. Curator Plamena Dimitrova-Racheva describes them as deeply personal and autobiographical sketches that offer insight into the artist's inner world, everyday life and mythological imagination.
Though central to his artistic practice, drawings were rarely exhibited by Yaranov (1940-1988), who viewed them as a deeply personal space. Dimitrova-Racheva said the showcased works are largely introspective, touching on timeless existential themes beyond the confines of their contemporary setting.
A student of Prof. Georgi Bogdanov at the National Academy of Art, Atanas Yaranov was known for both monumental and easel works, with pieces held in Bulgaria's major art galleries and private collections abroad. He has won many national awards.
