site.btaPeace Is Something We Should Cherish, Not Take for Granted - MEP Andrey Novakov

More than ever peace seems to be something we must fight for, something we must cherish and not take for granted as a mere lesson from history, Bulgarian MEP from the European People's Party group Andrey Novakov told BTA ahead of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
“The news I read is more like 1937, 1938, 1939. This morning the briefing I received before I came to work wrote about India’s bombing of Pakistan, about an Indian fighter jet shot down in Pakistan, about the airports in Sudan and Yemen being blown up, plus the attack in Gaza and separately how the front in Ukraine is moving,” the MEP noted.
“More than ever, peace seems to be something that we will have to fight for these days, to cherish it and not just take it for granted as a mere lesson from history,” Novakov insisted.
“You cannot remain indifferent when you see a World War II veteran who participated in the Normandy landings standing in front of you and telling you “Never again allow war on the continent,”” Novakov said.
“I am a member of the Committee on Security and Defence, and I identify as a pacifist with a military background,” he added.
