EP Foresees 0.1% Difference
in Results of GERB, Socialists
in May EP Elections

Brussels, April 18 (BTA corr. Nikolay Zhelyazkov) - The European Parliament (EP) foresees a difference of 0.1 per cent in the results of GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) in the upcoming EP elections, according to data published by the EP and based on public opinion polls conducted by the agencies Alfa Research and Mediana.

The data shows that if the elections were held now, BSP would receive 32.8 per cent of votes, and GERB 32.7 per cent, which would result in an equal number of MEPs of both parties, that is, six of each.

The other Bulgarian parties expected to win MEP seats are the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) with two seats, and VMRO, "Yes, Bulgaria" and Volya with one seat each. Ataka, ABV and the National Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria are not expected to win any seats, according to the data.

Since mid-March, there has been a decrease of support for GERB and the MRF, and an increased support for BSP.

The EP noted that the polls used to estimate the predicted seats were not ordered by the institution. The press release also says that data was used only from reliable sources. LI/TH
