site.btaCabinet Fixes Party Subsidy at 11 Leva per Valid Vote Won at Latest Parliamentary Elections

May 27 (BTA) - The Council of Ministers has approved a
decision on a bill amending the Political Parties Act which lays
down precise rules for the calculation and allocation of the
state subsidy paid to parties, the government's information
service said. After passage, the law will have retroactive
effect from May 26, 2016.

The move comes after a TV talk show host showed that the state
subsidies to parties paid out in 2018 were 6.5 million leva in
excess of the amount that should have been provided. This put
"the price" of a valid vote won at the latest parliamentary
elections at 13.23 leva instead of the legally established
standard of 11 leva.

The rules proposed by the government fix the state subsidy at 11
leva per a valid vote won at the latest parliamentary
elections. IG/ZH
