site.btaBTA to Screen Documentary about Picasso

A documentary focus on little-known facts about Spanish painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso will be screened for journalists on Friday at the Maxim Hall of BTA.

The event is part of the programme of the tenth edition of the Master of Art festival.

Simone Risi is the director of Picasso: a Rebel in Paris. The film stars Mina Kavani.

“The documentary explores the contradictory nature of Picasso’s character, from his generosity and despotism, to his light and shadows, often hidden behind a mask. The film provokes a debate of whether one can separate the artist from the man. Set against the backdrop of the extraordinary Paris of the mid-20th century, a city full of contradictions, tolerance and xenophobia, the film describes the dual nature of the image of Picasso,” the Master of Art team said.

Little-known aspects of the artist's life are revealed, including his status as an “alien” in Paris, his role as an anarchist among anarchists in Montmartre and finally his “queer” view of his own work.
