Sofia, June 10 (BTA) - At a recent workshop in Ostrava, the Czech Republic, CEZ Razpredelenie Bulgaria AD presented its biodiversity conservation policy, the technical measures it is applying and the implementation of activities under the Life Birds on Power Lines Project, the electricity distribution company said in a press release on Sunday.
CEZ is investing over 800,000 euro in a 2.65 million euro project entitled "Conservation of Endangered Bird Species by Securing Hazardous Overhead Lines in Natura 2000 Protected Areas in Western Bulgaria," which is co-financed with 1.85 million euro by the EU LIFE Programme.
The implementation of the project will secure some 4,000 ferro-concrete pylons, 1,200 lattice steel pylons and some 120 km of overhead power lines, as a result of which the risk of birds colliding with pylons will be reduced by 90 per cent. The company will secure 900 white stork nests in Western Bulgaria. The project activities will continue until the end of 2022.
