June 26 (BTA) - Bulgarian National Assembly Chair Tsveta Karayancheva met with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and with Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin during her two-day official visit to Moscow, the National Assembly press center said on Wednesday. After the meeting with Medvedev, Karayancheva expressed her optimism about the development of the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Russia.

Karayancheva thanked Medvedev for a decision involving bulgarian university students and their right to work part-time in the Russian Federation. She assured him that the Bulgarian side is making all the necessary efforts to implement the TurkStream project within Bulgaria and Serbia, proposing to rename it Balkan Stream.

The Russian Prime Minister appreciated the work being done to build and expand the gas infrastructure in Bulgaria and the region and expressed satisfaction that Bulgaria would be involved in the realization of TurkStream and gas transit.

Medvedev also confirmed that ROSATOM will apply to be a strategic investor in the Bulgarian Belene N-plant project.

After meeting with Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Karayancheva noted that Bulgaria is interested in pursuing a balanced and mutually beneficial political dialogue, guided by its national interests, while taking into account the common policy of the EU Member States and NATO. "We are convinced that such a dialogue will contribute to cooperation in areas of mutual interest," added Karayancheva.

Bulgaria is working to restore confidence and develop open and pragmatic relations between Brussels and Moscow, Karayancheva said. The EU and Russia have strategic importance for each other and overlapping interests in many areas, despite their differences, she added.

The Bulgarian parliamentary delegation, led by Karayancheva on this two-day visit to Moscow, also includes the co-chairs of the Bulgaria-Russia Friendship Group Krassimir Velchev and Anton Kutev, the deputy chair of the group, Volen Siderov, and parliament representatives Diana Savateva, Boryana Georgieva and Ahmed Ahmedov.
