The Rise Up BG civic association, part of the BSP - United Left coalition, launched a national petition for the introduction of a cap on bank fees, the organization's chair Maya Manolova said at the launch of the petition in front of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB).

Rise Up BG has drafted a bill to cap bank charges, which has been tabled by BSP - United Left in Parliament and is pushing for it to be considered by MPs. "As we are convinced that they are acting only under pressure, we are launching a national initiative, we will collect a petition to show MPs how much the people, who elected them really expect a cap on bank charges and to get some protection from the MPs", Manolova said.

She explained that the point of this bill is to make the fees cost-based, i.e. the amount of bank fees should be determined by the value of the service.
