Former Urea Maker Plant
July 15 (BTA) - A one-of-a-kind
operation is taking place near Vratsa involving the safe
disposal of 100 t of carbon disulfide from the former
urea-making plant Chimco. The carbon disulfide has been kept in
special containers for nearly 20 years. Now it will be pumped
out of the containers and carried out, to a location abroad. The
operation started on Monday and is expected to continue for
five days.
Vratsa Mayor Kalin Kamenov said that a safety area has been
designated where use of any electronic device is forbidden. The
operation is performed by a small team, in the presence of a
foreign expert who monitors the work. Fire engines and a special
vehicle for chemical protection are on site. No evacuation is
planned for the people living in the vicinity of the plant,
Kamenov said. IG/ZH
