Nikol Gospodinova from Pleven won a bronze medal at the 13th annual International Meeting of Young Beekeepers in Dubai.
Participants from 20 countries around the world took part, competing in an individual and a team event. In both, there was a theory test and a practical segment, which included marking a queen bee and identifying types of honey.
In the team event, teams were formed randomly. "They gave us T-shirts in different colours. Mine was dark green. I fell into a team with children from the Arab countries, Malta, Australia and England. For the third place we were awarded with medals and certificates and received gifts," Nikol told BTA.
After the competition, the young beekeepers visited a local apiary where they learned about the local types of beehives and ways of raising bee colonies.
Nikol Gospodinova is a student in the ninth grade of Pleven's vocational high school in catering, trade and service. She won the right to represent Bulgaria with two more girls at the first national competition Targovishte earlier in 2024.
