Bulgarian Kalos Nasar won the world title in the men's 89 kg class at the IWF World Championships in Manama with two world records: 183 kg in the snatch and an overall lift of 405 kg. He also tried to better his world record in the clean and jerk but failed at 225 kg.

Nasar bettered Colombian Yeison Lopez's snatch record of 182 kg, and with 222 kg in the C&J bettered his own world record of 404 kg in the overall lift, set at the Paris Olympics where he also took gold.

Nasar won the first medal for Bulgaria in Bahrain and is the first European to have won a title at the World Championships in Manama so far.

Wednesday's victory makes Nasar the first Bulgarian weightlifter to have won a European, a world and an Olympic title in one calendar year. He also won a world title in the 81 kg class at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent.
