site.bta Prime Minister Glavchev Urges Politicians in Parliament to Elect National Assembly Chair

At a ceremony at the Military Medical Academy (MMA) on the occasion of the 133rd anniversary of its establishment on Monday, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev called on politicians in Parliament to find the right tone and start talks that will lead to the election of a National Assembly Chair.

Glavchev said that some institutions must always work, try to compensate for the absence or non-functioning of another authority, and pointed out that the caretaker Cabinet is trying to do this and will do it as long as necessary.

The Prime Minister noted that the idea behind the changes in the Constitution was to have uninterrupted work in the National Assembly, and now the work cannot start at all. He argued that it is strange that the figure of the National Assembly Chair is treated as a potential prime minister, who is at a much lower level in the power pyramid of the state. “If I were the National Assembly Chair, I would never become a caretaker prime minister,” Glavchev said.

He added that there must be a government with a clearly expressed political will so that the parties can bear responsibility. “People vote, expecting them to do their job, and they must fulfill their duty and bear responsibility. We are responsible enough,” the Prime Minister added.
