Artist Yuri Kovachev’s exhibition titled Transformations of Beauty will be on display at Sofia’s Millennium Gallery from December 3 to January 7. The exhibition will be opened by Prof. Lyubomir Stoykov, art historian and lecturer at the National Academy of Arts, the organizers said.

The exhibition features 51 artworks, including landscapes, depictions of old Sofia, still lifes, ballerinas, and mountain scenes, all painted in oil on canvas. The event is hosted by Anna and Vasil Banov, patrons and managers of the gallery.

"True to his style, the artist explores the transformations of beauty, drawing inspiration from the Rhodope and Balkan Mountains, the sea, art, the historic aura of old Sofia, and his own personal vision. His works are accessible for a broad audience, reflecting his lasting focus on classical subjects, ideas, and themes. He remains true to his long-standing belief in the harmony and contrast between man and nature and stereotypes and individuality," Prof. Stoykov said.

"For the third time, Millennium Gallery is showcasing the paintings of our beloved artist Yuri Kovachev. The artworks are inspiring, filled with energy and vibrancy. Painted with bold strokes, they are impulsive and expressive and feature skillfully layered colors in the artist's signature palette of warm and pastel, creating a sense of comfort. The blend of this colour euphoria with the subtle, delicate touch of the artist's brushwork in the portraits is his distinctive hallmark. The exhibition Transformations of Beauty, with its captivating paintings, sets a joyful, pre-Christmas mood", Anna Banova said.

Yuri Kovachev was born in 1961 in Ruse. His first teacher was artist Kiril Stanchev. In 1990, Kovachev graduated with a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy in Sofia. From 1992-1998, he worked as an assistant professor before leaving academia to devote his life to painting. In 2000, Kovachev had his first solo exhibition. His artworks are held in private collections and public institutions both in Bulgaria and abroad.
