site.btaBulgaria Ready to Share EU Pre-accession Experience with North Macedonia - Environment Minister

September 2 (BTA) - Bulgaria's Environment and Water
Minister Neno Dimov conferred in Skopje on Monday with North
Macedonia's newly appointed Environment and Physical Planning
Minister Naser Nuredini, Dimov's Ministry said in a press
release. The two discussed future joint work in implementing the
 Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Environmental and
Water Protection between their ministries, signed in Sofia on
April 11, 2019.

The sides outlined the forthcoming actions that they will take
for the practical implementation of the Agreement. They agreed
that the Joint Commission on Environment and Water Cooperation
will hold a session in October, at which specific activities
targeting nature conservation, water management, waste
management and soil protection will be discussed at the expert
level.

"Neighbour-to-neighbour cooperation in environmental and water
protection in the region will contribute to efficient
utilization of resources, to economic growth and, above all, to
ensuring a healthy environment to the citizens of the two
countries," Dimov said. He stressed that this goal can be
achieved by conforming to uniform environmental standards
aligned with EU legislation.

The guest expressed Bulgaria's readiness to share its EU
pre-accession process experience with North Macedonia. Dimov
specified that Bulgaria can provide support to North Macedonia
in the process of harmonizing its legislation with the EU
environmental acquis and noted that this is the second most
voluminous body of Union law. RY/LG
