site.btaINSCOP Research Director Says No Romanian Presidential Candidate Likely to Exceed 25% in First Round of Elections
For the first time in Romania's modern democratic history, in the first round of the November 24 presidential elections no candidate is likely to exceed 25% of the vote, INSCOP Research Director Remus Stefureac told BTA in an exclusive interview. He cited the agency's latest data, according to which the number of people undecided about whom to vote for has increased from 7 to 15% in the last three weeks.
Stefureac added that the most probable scenario for the moment is the current prime minister and leader of the ruling Social Democratic Party, Marcel Ciolacu, and the leader of the nationalist Alliance for the Union of Romanians party, George Simion, to reach a run-off on December 8, but he does not rule out the possibility Romania to have its first woman president. In the parliamentary elections, the advantage will go to those parties whose candidates will feature in the run-off, the INSCOP Director said.
