Members of the European Parliament from the Europe of Sovereign Nations group met with Bulgarian MPs of Vazrazhdane here on Wednesday. Their working meeting on parliamentarism and democracy was unveiled by Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov.

In his speech, he said that the creation of the Europe of Sovereign Nations group is an old common dream. In his words, the focus of the group is on issues that are generally neglected, ignored, and rejected in the EU. "History is driven by people who are not afraid to tell the truth, to challenge the agenda, even when it is set in such a way as to create more risks than opportunities," the Vazrazhdane leader said. "The Europe of Sovereign Nations group gives a chance to our countries, our peoples and the EU," he added. The aim of the group is to give Europe back to the people. "We have a huge responsibility, not to our peoples, but to the whole continent," Kostadinov said, highlighting illegal migration as one of the problems that he said threatens Europe.

Europe of Sovereign Nations Chair Rene Aust noted that there are particular challenges related to the demography of Europe and education. Europe's universities have declined in global ranking. They no longer set the tone, they make the ideology, Aust added. In his words, Europe is also lagging behind in other areas - such as the ability to defend itself, the ability to provide its own necessary resources. Today there is an ideological foreign policy that aims to lecture others in the world instead of conducting a peaceful trade, and here an urgent change is needed, said Aust. In his words, they are working and want to create a political group that will not apologise for what it is, but will be true to its principles - on the core issues they want to work together so that they are not dependent on other parts of the world. "Here today, together, we can develop our agenda that will make our group stronger and our continent more independent," he added.

Emerging from the working meeting, Kostadinov told reporters that the ambition that Europe of Sovereign Nations has is to become a major political factor. "The most important thing is that we have once again established a complete overlap of our programmes, without any differences - provided that we have not coordinated and have just agreed to form working groups to elaborate a common governance programme of Europe of Sovereign Nations in the EU, Kostadinov said. In his words, these working groups will be in different segments: agriculture, industry, demography.

"The main topic we discussed was migration, the way it affects the EU and the future of the EU after the election of Donald Trump as US President. This is something that is very much underestimated in our country, and it should not be, because the most powerful country, the one that is practically Bulgaria's suzerain at the moment, is changing its foreign policy and its foreign policy course," Kostadinov commented. According to him, this is something that the Bulgarian power holders apparently have not yet understood.
