Prime Minister:
LV 1 Bln Being Provided
for Educational Infrastructure

September 9 (BTA) - One billion leva in funding is being provided for educational infrastructure across Bulgaria, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said on Monday, as quoted by the government press service. Borissov spoke at the opening of the upgraded training complex of the Vassil Levski National Sports Academy in Sofia.

The training complex was upgraded on 3,755,636 leva in funding mainly from EU sources. The national co-financing amounted to 525,000 leva. The project involved an overhaul of the main building, construction of a new sports hall and provision of new furnishings and equipment in the classrooms, the conference hall, the library, the reading room, the gym and the locker rooms.

The Prime Minister noted that the theft of facilities worth tens of millions of leva has been prevented and the facilities have been entrusted to the National Sports Academy.

The refurbishment of the Academy and the improvement of the learning process there will facilitate the introduction of new training methods. The improved conditions will encourage students to be pro-active in acquiring knowledge and pursuing successful careers upon graduation.

Asked by a journalist about the portfolio to be assigned to the Bulgarian member of the new European Commission, Borissov said: "I am convinced we will have a portfolio that we like, a modern portfolio which is worthy of Bulgaria, with at least three times as much funding as the current one."
