September 24 (BTA) - Top
surgeons from the World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons
(WALS) are to train students and young doctors in Pleven, the
Rector of the Medical University in the city, Prof. Dr. Slavcho
Tomov, announced at the BTA Press Club there.

Such a training course is organized for the first time in
Bulgaria, Tomov specified. The university's telecom endoscopic
centre in Pleven will provide its innovative premises and
equipment for the training of over 100 medics from this country
and abroad in a two-day course including Wednesday.

Nine leading WALS experts will present the latest trends and
achievements in surgery across the world. The world-class
experts who have been particularly invited by the Medical
University to come to Bulgaria include surgeons from the Centro
Embryos Battipaglia (SA) in Salerno, Italy, Louisiana State
University, and the Gynecologic Robotic Surgery at California
Pacific Medical Center in the United States, as well as others.

The training course in Pleven precedes the major forum, European
Robotic Surgery Congress, organized by the Medical University
and scheduled for September 26 to 28. Bulgaria hosts an event of
such rank for the first time, Tomov said. The prestigious
hosting was won by the team of Corresponding Member, Prof. Dr.
Grigor Gorchev, the pioneer of robotic surgery in Southeastern
Europe./RY/BR
