"You can count me, if you want, as a Bulgarian, Turk or Roma, I will not give up, together with all of the MRF - New Beginning, to protect and fulfil our commitments to these people - for a better life, for security and justice. I am proud that they have given me their trust and I will defend their rights as their leader by all democratic means," said MRF-New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski in a statement released to the media on Wednesday.
"The desperation and fears of failed political leaders and their formations have culminated in a dangerous direction for democracy and the rule of law in Bulgaria. Faced with the insufficient trust they receive from the voters, once again, instead of humbling themselves and looking for a way out through the formation of a regular cabinet and stability, which the people have urgently demanded from their politicians, the failed politicians want power, but not according to the rules. At the cost of everything," said Delyan Peevski.
"At the cost of peace and stability!? At the cost of violating the Constitution!? At the cost of civil rights being taken away!?
And who are those who are willing to sacrifice the state for the sake of their personal interests? These are the people in power who illegally arrested the leader of the opposition, then, while their Interior Minister persecuted and harassed our people to ensure election results through machinations and intimidation," said Peevski.
"But now I want to stress something very important - as the leader of those nearly 300,000 Bulgarian citizens who gave their trust to the MRF - New Beginning, to all those Bulgarians, Turks and Roma who gave us this very serious responsibility - to protect and defend them and their interests, I will not allow anyone to turn them into second class people again or to take away their right to live in a peaceful and free Bulgaria," he said.
"Nor will I allow anyone to isolate or segregate them or take away their right to representation in government.
Moreover, it is unacceptable and unconstitutional to take away a fundamental freedom of everyone - to elect and be elected.
In a free, democratic and European Bulgaria this will not happen! And no one can divide people on ethnic or religious grounds," the leader of MRF - New Beginning said.
