The latest issue of BTA’s LIK magazine, dedicated to the 155th anniversary of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), will be presented at the Agency’s National Press Club in Bucharest on Monday. The event will also mark the second anniversary of the BTA Press Club’s opening in the Romanian capital, coinciding with the feast day of Venerable Theophano Basarab as canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church.

BTA Director General Kiril Valchev will open the event. Among the attendees will be Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Romania Radko Vlaykov, Georgi Nakov, national representative of the Bulgarian minority in the Romanian Parliament, honorary consul in Timisoara and President of the Union of Banat Bulgarians, BAS President Julian Revalski, and Romania’s National History Museum Director Ernest Oberlander.

Guests will have the chance to view photos from the BTA archive celebrating the BAS anniversary as well as the magazine’s paper and digital editions.

In the introduction, Valchev describes this issue of LIK magazine as "a duty of BTA". In his words, this duty is not only historical, as "BTA’s first home was the main building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences" in downtown Sofia, where its first director general, Oscar Iskander, and his assistant began reading telegraph tapes and hand-writing the first bulletins in 1898. This magazine issue is also a duty because "those with a platform have a profound responsibility to represent those truly deserving, both those who work in science today and those who have left a lasting legacy," Valchev added.

The LIK issue traces BAS’s growth over the years through a thematic chronology, featuring highlights from BTA’s archives of news items about the Academy that capture its defining moments: landmark discoveries and achievements, the induction of new members, prestigious recognitions, and awards given to esteemed researchers, academics, and public figures, both domestic and international.
