site.btaChiprovtsi Fire in Balkan Range Reported Extinguished
October 30 (BTA) - A fire
which has been burning for three days at an altitude of 1,800 m
in the western Balkan Range, has been put down. There are still
flames nearby, across the border in Serbian territory, but the
fire there has been localized, said the head of the national
fire service Nikolai Nikolov.
The blaze was first spotted on October 27 and spread on 52 sq km
in the high mountain near the village of Chiprovtsi and
Martinovo. Only a third of the fire was on Bulgarian territory
and the rest was in Serbia.
Nikolov said that the fire is not expected to have caused
