Bulgaria Moves Five Position Up in
IMD's World Talent
Ranking

Sofia, November 20 (BTA) - Bulgaria has moved up five positions to reach the 52nd place in the 2019 World Talent Ranking which measures the ability of countries to cultivate, attract and retain a skilled workforce. It is developed annually by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland, and covers a total of 63 countries.

The 2019 table is led by small and mid-size European economies. These countries all share high levels of investments in education and a superior quality of life, the IMD points out as it announced the ranking two days ago.

"Cultivating, attracting and retaining a skilled workforce is crucial to strengthen competitiveness and achieve long-term prosperity, particularly in the current dynamic landscape where artificial intelligence, robotics and other new technologies constantly redefine the challenges that governments, businesses and society in general will have to face in the future," IMD says.

The talent ranking is based on three factors: investment in, and development of, talent; appeal, which evaluates the extent to which a country attracts local and
foreign talent; and readiness, which measures the quality of the skills and competencies that are available in the country.

Bulgaria places 46th for investment and development. This reflects a relative strong performance in terms of government expenditure for education per student (27th) and female labour force (25th). The worst performance in this group of factors is seen in health infrastructure and how far it meets the needs of society (58th), employee training and whether it is a priority for companies (55th) and availability of apprenticeships (53rd).

In terms of appeal, Bulgaria is placed 58th in the ranking. The sole area where it does well is cost of living (4th). It is close to the bottom for all other parameters (attracting and retaining talents 60th, worker motivation 57th, brain drain 56th, quality of life 59th, etc.

The 55th place for readiness is based on very strong performance for labour force growth (3rd) and average to very low ranking for all the rest, including management education (63rd), finance skills (57th), international experience (55th) and ability of unversity education to meet the needs of a competitive economy.
