The Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water (RIEW) in Plovdiv informed citizens that the two air quality monitoring points in the city report no exceedances of the average day-night norms for particulate matter on August 2, reported the press center of the Ministry of Environment and Water.
The data is continuously monitored because of the fire that occurred in the regional landfill for non-hazardous waste in the village of Tsalapitsa.
Around 5:30 pm on Thursday, a fire broke out on the territory of the regional landfill for non-hazardous waste near the village of Tsalapitsa, Rodopi Municipality. The flames covered an area of about 1.5-1.6 hectares. Agricultural equipment was called in to help plow around the landfill to prevent the fire from spreading to dry grass in the field. As a result of the fire, there was heavy smoke.
RIEW - Plovdiv will continue to monitor pollutants in the air after the fire in the following days and is ready to inform the citizens and other institutions in case of registering increased values, the Ministry assured.
