site.btaBAZA Award Nominees Present Joint Exhibition
The nominated artists for the 2024 BAZA Contemporary Art Award in Bulgaria will present a joint exhibition. The exhibition will be arranged by curator Marina Slavova in the Sofia City Art Gallery between July 23 and September 8, the organizers reported.
Alexander Lazarkov, Diana Bunkin, Kristina Nenova, Nevelin Ivanov, rawlab (Radina Yotova and Roslana Yotova) and Tsvetomira Borisova will take part in the exhibition with their works. Th winner of the award will be announced at the opening.
The event is organized by the Sofia City Art Gallery, the Institute of Contemporary Art – Sofia, the Edmond Demirjian Foundation and the Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation together with the Foundation for a Civil Society, New York and the Young Visual Artists Awards international network.
The team recalled that the Young Visual Artists Awards international network was founded for the first time in 1990 in the Czechia by the founder of the Foundation for a Civil Society (USA) Wendy Luers at the initiative of Vaclav Havel. Now the network encompasses twelve countries from Central and Eastern Europe. The award consists of a two-month creative stay at Residency Unlimited, New York, as well as a solo exhibition at the ISI Art Gallery in Sofia. The awardee will be sponsored by the Trust for Mutual Understanding, New York.
In Bulgaria, the BAZA award was founded in 2008 at the initiative of Maria Vasileva and is organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art - Sofia and the Edmond Demirjian Foundation. From 2021, the Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation supports the nominated authors by financing their projects, the organizers added.
Artists up to the age of 35 can participate in the competition.
