Taraclia District President Lazar Dermenzhi and the head of the Union of Banat Bulgarians and Romanian MP, Georgi Nakov, discussed future cooperation in international projects aimed at preserving the cultural and historical heritage of Bulgarians and supporting the only higher education institution in Taraclia District, the Gregory Tsamblak State University.

Dermenzhi and Nakov agreed on steps to establish an international association of Bulgarians, which will include two representatives of the Bulgarian communities from Ukraine, Moldova, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, the Republic of North Macedonia, Albania, Greece, and other European countries, the press service of Moldova’s government said.

"The aim of this association is to represent and defend the interests of Bulgarian national minorities at all levels while playing an important role in preventing global changes that could affect their way of life. The first meeting of the newly established association will be held in Romania’s Parliament," the Taraclia District Council said.

Committed to preserving Bulgarian culture and language in Romania, Nakov is the initiator of numerous cultural events and projects aimed at strengthening Bulgarian national identity among the community. He is part of the parliamentary group of national minorities, which consists of 18 MPs.
