Europol has given a high mark to the work of Burgas Directorate of the Interior in ensuring security during the annual world rally of the Hells Angels motorcycle club, which took place in Burgas on June 22, Chief Commissioner Emil Pavlov, head of the Burgas Regional Directorate of Interior, said here Thursday. A high number of police officers were involved in the security for the event, which brought thousands of motorcyclists from around the globe to Sveti Vlas, Sunny Beach, and Nessebar on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
Chief Commissioner Pavlov described the rally as an extremely risky event the likes of which had never been organized in Bulgaria before. "Our officers showed that they are ready to handle all kinds of challenges. We did not have a single alert about a violation of the public order, which is indicative of professionalism and a job well done," he noted.
Throughout the entire summer season, over 420 police officers will be stationed along the southern coast. Police officers from Romania, Czechia, Poland, and Germany are already helping their Bulgarian colleagues at seaside resorts. "We have created the necessary organization, and at present the season is progressing calmly. I hope that will remain so until the season's end," Chief Commissioner Pavlov said, adding that the Burgas Regional Directorate of Interior reports a lower number of crimes this summer season compared to the like period of 2023.
Earlier on Thursday, a solemn ceremony marking the 145th anniversary of the Interior Ministry was held in front of the Burgas Regional Directorate of Interior. Police officers were awarded for having achieved high professional results in 2024. A minute of silence was held and flowers were laid in memory of the officers who have died in the line of duty.
