Moldova's Energy Minister Victor Parlicov spoke at a panel on "Energy Transformation: the Look Ahead" of the Green Transition Forum 4.0 on Thursday, the second day of the three-day event that is taking place in Sofia. The forum is organized by Dir.bg and 3E News, and BTA is media partner.

Parlicov sees both peculiarities and common principles in the region. In his words, everybody talk about the energy transition from the point of view of renewable energy, with a focus above all on electricity. Electricity, however, takes up a relatively small part, the Moldovan Minister said, specifying that in his country electricity accounts for 13% of the energy balance, compared to 50% for heat. Hence, heat decarbonization must take a more prominent position in the green transition debate. Parlicov compared the issue to the proverbial elephant in the room.

In his words, decarbonization of heating, and above all of district heating systems, is missing from the discussion and must be included.

The other topic is electricity storage. "If we learn how to store heat, too, then we will be able to be more flexible even in the electricity sector," Moldova's Energy Minister commented further.
