Evgeni Veselinov, editor-in-chief of BulgariCA in California, was among the speakers during the first panel of the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media. "We must leave history to the past and look to the future. I am proud to be here and to have been involved in these meetings [of Bulgarian media] for the past 19 years."
Veselinov emphasized the importance of journalists fulfilling their responsibilities by providing comprehensive coverage of the lives of Bulgarians abroad. He remarked that the concept of fear does not exist in the fundamental aspects of life, including society, the military, sports, and journalism. He also thanked BTA for continuing this important initiative.
"Let's leave history in the past and focus on the future. I believe that's the goal of this meeting," he said.
Veselinov, founder of the first Bulgarian media and school in the US, expressed difficulty in establishing a connection with Bulgarian-based media. He observed that US media can be divided into two types: those that do business and those that work for a cause. Veselinov believes his media operates with a cause, not for profit, and continues to maintain it.
He highlighted the problem of Bulgarian media abroad showing disinterest in events related to the Bulgarian community and ordinary people, focusing instead on successful individuals, celebrities, or disasters. He also emphasized the importance of covering the war in Ukraine.
BTA is organizing the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media in Odesa, Bolhrad, and Izmail, Ukraine, from June 18 to June 21, 2024. The event is taking place with the support of Aurubis Bulgaria, A1 Bulgaria, Glavbolgarstroy Holding AD, Euroins Insurance Group, Postbank, SOF Connect, and the 13 Centuries of Bulgaria National Endowment Fund.
