site.btaBulgaria's 2019 Exports to EU Up 2.9 Per Cent,Year on Year, Exports to Third Countries Grow 2.2 Per Cent in January 2020, Month on Month

March 12 (BTA) - In 2019, Bulgarian exports to the EU grew by 2.9 per cent in comparison with 2018 and amounted to 38,779.5 million leva, according to preliminary data released by the National Statistical Institute on Thursday. Bulgaria's main trading partners in this group were Germany, Romania, Italy, Greece, France and Belgium, which accounted for 66.5 per cent of exports to the EU Member States. In December 2019, exports to the EU dropped by 4.7 per cent from the comparable month of the previous year and amounted to 2,548.4 million leva.

In 2019, Bulgarian imports from the EU increased by 3.1 per cent from 2018 and reached 41,143.0 million leva. The largest amounts were reported for goods imported from Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and Spain. In December 2019, Bulgarian imports from the EU Member States increased by 4.6 per cent compared to December 2018 and amounted to 3,206.5 million leva.

In 2019, Bulgaria ran a 2,363.5 million leva deficit with the EU (export FOB - import CIF).

In January 2020, the exports of goods from Bulgaria to third countries increased by 2.2 per cent from the same month of 2019 and added up to 1,581.5 million leva. Bulgaria's main trading partners were Turkey, China, the US, Serbia, North Macedonia and Russia, which accounted for 53.5 per cent of exports to non-EU countries.

The imports of goods to Bulgaria from third countries in January 2020 increased by 5.4 per cent from January 2019 and added up to 2,158.2 million leva (at CIF prices). The largest amounts were reported for goods imported from Russia, Turkey, China and Egypt.

In January 2020, Bulgaria ran a 576.7 million leva deficit with third countries (export FOB - import CIF).

In January 2020, the value of goods exported from Bulgaria totaled 4,896.1 million leva, 3.7 per cent up from January 2019. The value of goods imported into Bulgaria in January 2020 totalled 5,297.6 million leva (at CIF prices), or 4.9 per cent up from January 2019.

In January 2020, the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative and amounted to 401.5 million leva. NV/LG
