As the elections approach, the declared voter turnout is slightly increasing, a survey by Alpha Research shows. About 40% of adult citizens, or approximately 2.6 million people, declare their readiness to vote for the National Assembly. The campaign could increase their number, bringing it closer to that of April 2023's parliamentary elections (around 2.7 million), the survey also shows.

According to analysts, given the negative public energy that political scandals have produced in recent months, it is difficult to expect a high electoral wave. The intrigue and the stakes will be mainly in the redistribution of political preferences among the current electorate, they said.

A campaign of small differences, which however has the potential to lead to more significant changes in the overall political landscape - such is the generalized picture that the traditional nationally representative Alpha Research survey of electoral attitudes at the start of the election campaign has painted.

Voter turnout for the European elections appears to be lower, about 35%, or 2.3 million people, but higher than in 2019, when just under 2.1 million citizens went to the polls. The difference is due to the fact that when the two types of elections coincide, the national vote "pulls up” the European one. It should also be taken into account that Bulgarians in Turkiye, Great Britain, the USA and other countries outside the EU cannot participate in the European elections, but they can vote for the Bulgarian National Assembly. This means that in all likelihood there will be a 3-5% difference between the turnouts for the two elections, Alpha Research added.
