531 COVID-19 Cases in
Bulgaria
as of Sunday

Sofia, April 5 (BTA) - The confirmed COVID-19 cases Bulgaria reached 531 with 20 fatalities, the coronavirus task force said Sunday afternoon. 210 patients are in hospital, including 22 in intensive care.

The average age of the confirmed cases in Bulgaria is 47 years.

The complete recoveries total 37.

Twenty-three medics have the coronavirus, as well as nine police officers. Two members of the Armed Forces have tested positive and one is reported in serious condition.

Emergency room and ambulance medics are being tested en mass.

About 30 per cent of the people who have tested positive, had been abroad but most of the confirmed cases no longer have anything to do with this pathway of infection.

The head of the national coronavirus task force, Prof. Ventsislav Moutafchiiski, said Saturday that the measures of social distancing are producing the desired results and the number of patients is growing gradually rather than exponentially. He said, however, that Bulgaria is still on the upward slope of the curve and claiming that the worst part is over is irresponsible.

Referring to the upcoming Easter holidays, Prof. Moutafchiiski said it is no time for holidays.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that the COVID-19-caused deaths in Bulgaria are not many. "On Friday, more people died in road accidents than from coronavirus," he said. He expects that Bulgaria "will be in hell" two or three weeks from now.
