The Green Movement party has decided to run in the June 9 European and national elections in a format different from the Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) coalition, the party said on its official website on Monday.

The current format has proven to be insufficiently effective in defending democratic principles and advocating key reforms for Bulgaria, the Green Movement stated. The party noted that before this decision was voted at the National Council, it was preceded by a broad consultation of party members, which showed support for appearing outside the CC-DB coalition. The party's decision is to run on its own or in another coalition, the Green Movement said in its release.

The party pointed out that it belongs to a separate European political family - the European Greens, with its pro-European identity, and it will not enter a coalition with the parties of the status quo, “which are undoubtedly GERB and Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

The European Green Party's campaign slogan for the European elections is "Choose Courage". “Our decision follows this spirit of courage and civic intransigence,” the Green Movement said.

"Considering all the difficulties in the work of the recent regular government, in which the Green Movement did not elect a minister, the main problem is the lack of progress in the set priorities and reforms," the party said. “Our voters were expecting both significant reforms in terms of the Constitution, the justice system and regulatory bodies, as well as positive changes related to the environment, the inclusion of citizens in decision-making processes, a sustainable energy transition, and increased equity in society,” the Green Movement added.

The Party thanked its CC-DB partners for their joint work and the successes achieved and acknowledged that many more efforts will be made regarding their common causes.

On Monday, the Central Election Committee started accepting documents for registration of parties and coalitions for participation in the European and national elections. The deadline to apply for registration is 24 April 2024.
