site.btaInvestigation against Vasil Bojkov Concludes, Indictment Pending

The investigation against gambling mogul and oligarch Vasil Bojkov has ended, an indictment is pending, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office said on Wednesday. Bojkov was accused of attempted rape, murder and abetting in murder.

Initially, the pre-trial proceedings were conducted against Bojkov and six other defendants for an organized criminal group created for the purpose of murder, rape and coercion. At the end of March the supervising prosecutors partially closed the case, and the rest of it is yet to be submitted to the court with an indictment. Some of the materials were separated from the investigation and sent to the District Prosecutor's Office - Pleven and the District Prosecutor's Office - Blagoevgrad, the prosecution service informed.

The investigation has been terminated against five of the defendants in the part concerning the leadership and participation in an organized criminal group due to not sufficiently convincing evidence, the prosecution service said.

On August 25, 2023, Bojkov returned from Dubai, where he was residing, and was detained at Sofia airport. The next day, the Sofia City Court remanded him in custody. He is currently under house arrest with an electronic bracelet.
