On this date in Bulgarian history:
1909: Trade Union of Miners is set up.
1923: Bulgarian Olympic Committee is established. Organization was disbanded in September 1944 and re-established in 1952.
1935: Chemical warfare company is formed by order of Minister of War: first chemical warfare protection unit in Bulgarian armed forces.
1944: Worst British-US air raid of Sofia during WW II kills 139 people and destroys 3,575 buildings.
1998: Foreign Minister Nadezhda Mihaylova presents Bulgaria's National Strategy for Accession to the EU at meeting of foreign ministers of EU Member States and associated countries in Brussels.
2006: National Assembly adopts amendments to Bulgaria's Constitution.
2007: The 40th National Assembly adopts the Medicinal Products in Human Medicine Act, which sets the functions of the Bulgarian Drug Agency.

Malta: Freedom Day (withdrawal of last British troops from Malta in 1979).

1893: Bulgaria's first philatelic society is established in Plovdiv.
1901: Two quakes (measuring 7.2 and 7.1 on Richter Scale) strike Cape Kaliakra and Shabla (Northeastern Bulgaria).
1981: National Palace of Culture in Sofia is inaugurated.
2000: Radio Bulgaria's web page launches real audio news service in German.
2005: National Assembly ratifies Protocol on the Accession of the European Community to the Eurocontrol International Convention Relating to Co-operation for the Safety of Air Navigation of 13 December 1960, as variously amended and as consolidated.
2008: Bulgarian National Bank starts posting exchange rate statistics on its website.
