Tsvetelina Penkova MEP of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats is organizing a conference dedicated to the energy security as basis for the development of European industry and Bulgaria's role in the process. The event, which will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels on Tuesday, will gather key representatives of the largest industrial, energy and sectoral organizations from Bulgaria and Europe, as well as diplomats, MEPs, unionists, scientists, representatives of the non-governmental sector and experts from the European Commission.

The forum will be opened by Penkova, EU Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni and Belgium's Energy Minister Tinne Van der Straeten.

The main topic of the discussions will be Bulgaria's key role in the development of European energy industrial policies and their implementation in the economy. The agenda will include the development of nuclear energy as a key baseload power for the EU, the role of renewable energy sources and the need to improve the connectivity of electricity networks in the EU. The conference will focus on the EU's re-industrialization plan, the key importance of strategic raw materials in Bulgaria and the Union, the provision and training of quality personnel.

Penkova said: "The crises that befell us in recent years have shown that it is impossible to achieve the goals of the green transition without security in the energy sector, modern industry and increased extraction of key raw materials within the EU." She stated that the main priority of the European institutions should be to respect the competitive advantages of each Member State and promote European technology and industry.

As part of the forum, Penkova is organizing a panel discussion with Oscar-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone, who will present his documentary Nuclear Now. The film showcases the benefits of nuclear power and breaks down the stigma that it is an outdated and dangerous technology.
