Stefan Komandarev's film Blaga's Lessons will have its first screening in New York in April, said the Consulate General of Bulgaria in New York on its Facebook page.
The screening will take place on April 9 at The Museum of Modern Art (11 West 53 Street) and on April 14 at The Walter Reade Theater (165 W 65th St).

Blaga's Lessons will also be featured in Chicago on March 17 at the Magura Cinema, the Magura Cultural Centre informed.

The film follows the story of retired teacher Blaga, who becomes a victim of a phone scam. When she is left with no savings, no money for her late husband's grave, and only one private student, the woman realizes there is no way she can survive. Once strict and honest, Blaga receives a tempting but suspicious job offer and slowly begins to break all her principles, entering into a world from which there is no turning back.

Blaga's Lessons is the most awarded contemporary Bulgarian film. It won the Grand Prix Crystal Globe at the 57th Karlovy Vary Film Festival this year, as well as the female lead award by Eli Skorcheva, Petranov pointed out.

The Bulgarian-German production also received a prestigious nomination for the European Film Awards, the Jury Prize in Rome, as well as 7 Golden Rose awards, including Best Film. Blaga's Lessons was also the Bulgarian proposal for the Oscars this year.
