Sofia, May 14 (BTA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases
reached 2,100 people, said head of the national coronavirus task
force Prof. Moutafchiiski on Thursday. Over the last 24 hours,
there were 31 new cases in Bulgaria. A total of 351 patients are
hospitalized, 51 of them are in intensive care units.
Among medical staff, there are 3 new cases, bringing the total
of infected medics to 228.
So far, 521 patients have recovered. A total of 99 COVID-19
positive people have died, with three new casualties over the
last 24 hours.
In Bulgaria, there are over 800,000 patients with cardiovascular
diseases. Some of them have contracted the coronavirus and it
has brought them to untimely death, which otherwise could have
occurred at least ten years later, Moutafchiiski said.
Asked if the two-week quarantine requirement for people entering
Bulgaria should be removed, he said that even if all travellers
coming into this country are PCR tested, he cannot lift the
requirement, as some quarantined people have shown COVID-19
symptoms on the tenth day of isolation, after entering Bulgaria.
Moutafchiiski reminded that Bulgaria is cooperating with
neighbouring countries to devise common travelling measures.
He added that nurseries and kindergartens should remain closed
at least for another week. NV/MT
