Bulgarian national volleyball player Aleksandar Nikolov has renewed his Cucine Lube Civitanova contract until 2028, the Italian volleyball club announced on Friday.
"Coming surprisingly in the summer of 2022, the charismatic giant from the Balkans fascinated everyone with his power in attack, his extreme determination and his approach to matches, typical pf a very experienced player. These are qualities that allowed the volleyball player, born in 2003 and 206 cm tall, to stand out in his first season in a difficult championship like the Italian SuperLega," Civitanova wrote on its official website.
Aleksandar is a son of renowned former player Vladimir Nikolov who played in the Italian league between 2007 and 2012 and became champion with Trentino Volley and Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo.
Aleksandar had a successful first season with Lube in 2022-23. His team won the silver medals at the Italian Championship, losing to Itas Trentino in the finals. Trentino was led by another Bulgarian, Matey Kaziyski.
"I am very happy and grateful to Civitanova for this new opportunity. The Italian adventure and the values in the red and white team helped me gain experience and made me a better player and person. I will continue to work on myself to improve my technique and to be even more mentally ready," Nikolov said.
