June 2 (BTA) - Former PFC Levski and Bulgarian national team forward Nasko Sirakov announced Tuesday that he is now the owner of the club.

Sirakov published a statement in the club site, levski.bg, confirming that he has received 86.6 per cent of the shares in PFC Levski, previously owned by Vassil Bojkov and Georgi Popov.

"As of this morning, June 2, which is the day on which we commemorate Hristo Botev and those who have died for Bulgaria's freedom, I am the owner of 86.6 per cent of PFC Levski's shares," Sirakov wrote. He expressed gratitude to Georgi Popov and Vassil Bojkov for what they have done for the beloved club so far and that they have fulfilled their promise not to obstruct it. Because he needs time to acquaint himself with the situation in the club, Sirakov asks everyone to be patient until next Wednesday, June 10, when he will give his first news conference.

PFC Levski's difficult situation arose after 11 charges were brought against the actual owner of the club, businessman Vassil Bojkov. After Bojkov fled Bulgaria and went into hiding in the UAE, he announced that he could no longer finance the club. On May 16, Georgi Popov, a businessman close to Bojkov and de facto owner of Levski's shares, endorsed them to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, but the latter refused to accept them. Bojkov then conducted a survey on his Facebook page to allow Levski's fans to determine who should receive the shares. Sirakov was the one to garner the most votes./NV/BR
