Bulgaria's balance on goods showed a deficit of EUR 665.3 million in November 2023, up from a deficit of EUR 412.3 million in November 2022, the Bulgarian National Bank reported on Wednesday. In January - November 2023 the balance on goods was negative, amounting to EUR 2,954.6 million (3.1% of GDP), compared with a deficit of EUR 4,373.6 million (5.1% of GDP) in January - November 2022.
Exports of goods amounted to EUR 3,584.3 million in November 2023, decreasing by EUR 614.5 million (14.6%) from EUR 4,198.8 million in November 2022. In January - November 2023, exports of goods totalled EUR 40,254.7 million (42.1% of GDP), dropping by EUR 3,518.5 million (8%) year-on-year (from EUR 43,773.2 million, 51% of GDP). In January - November 2022 exports increased by 39.8%, year-on-year.
Imports of goods amounted to EUR 4,249.6 million in November 2023, decreasing by EUR 361.5 million (7.8%) from November 2022 (EUR 4,611 million). In January - November 2023 imports of goods totalled EUR 43,209.3 million (45.2% of GDP), dropping by EUR 4,937.5 million (10.3%) from January - November 2022 (EUR 48,146.9 million, 56.1% of GDP). In January - November 2022 imports increased by 42.9% year-on-year.
Services recorded a positive balance of EUR 424.4 million in November 2023, compared with a surplus of EUR 369.2 million in November 2022. In January - November 2023 services recorded a surplus of EUR 6,242.7 million (6.5% of GDP), compared with a positive balance of EUR 4,943.1 million (5.8% of GDP) in the same period of 2022.
Foreign direct investment in Bulgaria (under the directional principle) grew by EUR 83.7 million in November 2023 according to preliminary data, compared with an increase of EUR 349.1 million in November 2022 4 . In January - November 2023, foreign direct investment in Bulgaria grew by EUR 3,485.8 million, compared with an increase of EUR 2,562.7 million in January - November 2022.
Direct investment abroad grew by EUR 16.5 million in November 2023, compared with an increase of EUR 31.3 million in November 2022. In January - November 2023, direct investment abroad increased by EUR 456.3 million, compared with an increase of EUR 518 million in January - November 2022.
